TEFL


   A.    Introduction
1.      Background
This report was made to complete our TEFL task. It is about an observation in SMP 1 KEMBARAN especially at class 8D. we are so happy because we have done our job. By read this report, hopefully readers can know about learning process in class 8D at SMP N 1 KEMBARAN. For examples: what methode that teacher use to teach in class 8D, how about the students’ response, etc. It is important because by doing an observation, we know about the learning process and we can give review to improve the learning process. Nowadays, many teachers do not know how to teach well and how to make students enjoy while doing learning process. So, hopefully the teachers and the readers can get benefit from our result of observation.


2.      Aims
There are some aims of this observation:
1. To know what method that teacher use of teaching
2. To know about learning process
3. To evaluate the learning process and make it better

  B.     English as a Foreign Language Class Observation
1.      English as a foreign language class identify
We observe in class 8D at  SMP N 1 KEMBARAN. There are 29 students in the class. The teacher gave the topic about greeting card.

The teacher use PJBL when teaching the students
b.      Learning activity steps
Here is the step of what teacher do :
1. Greeting
The teacher say good afternoon to students and ask about students’ condition. It is like : “hallo students, how are you ?” The students give their respons to the teacher by saying “I am fine”.
2. Warming up
The teacher give the review about material that they have been discussed last week and also try to test the student with some questions. The questions are : “Do you remember about the material that we discussed last week ?” , “Can you please explain me about the material ?” after that, the teacher try to give an introduction about the new material. The material is about greeting card. Examples: congratulations, birthday card, etc.
3. Material “Greeting Card”
In this section, teacher explain about greeting card. First, teacher give an example about greeting card. Second, teacher read the example about greeting card and followed by students. Then, teacher give a test to students. The teachers ask students to memorieze greeting card and ask the students randomly.
4. Closing
Before the learning process is done, the teacher give a project to the students. The project is about making a greeting cards. First, teacher divide the students into some group. Each groups have 2 members. Second, teacher explain to students about what students going to do. Then, the students discuss about the material with their groups member. After that, they have to collect it to the teacher and present their discussion in front of class. But, because they do not have enough time, so they have to present it next week.
3.      Observation review
Actually, what the teacher do is good. We can see it from the way of her teaching. But, nobody is perfect. The teacher still have some mistakes while teaching in class. For example : too much read a book, too serious, etc. It affects to students. Students feel sleepy and do not enjoy the learning process.

  C.     An Alternative Scenario of English as a Foreign Language Class

1.    Greeting

·         Play a game
The teacher can make a game that related to the material. For example : The teacher play the drama about someone is birthday. To play this game, teacher have to choose one student to be a birthday girl/boy. Then, his friends have to make a birthday card and give it to him or the students can read the birthday card in front of class. The teachers just ask for a volenteer or choose the students randomly.
·         Tell about jokes or the teacher’ experience
As we know that if the teacher just focus on material, the students will get bored. To solve this problem, the teacher can give a joke or tell the students about her funny experience. The teacher can lie about the experience. For example: she can tell the students that she ever get a greeting card from someone’ special. Then explain about how she get the birthday card, who gives her, and how does it feel, etc. By doing this, the teacher can improve the learning process and the atmosphere in the class will be fun.
4.    Closing
Teacher can end the class by giving a task to students.

  D.    Conclusion and Suggestion
The teacher use PBJL when teaching the students, the steps are greeting, warming up, material and closing. But our group try to make the situation in the class not bored with play a game or tell about jokes or the teacher experience. We think both methode are good because when the students play a game they feel happy and interest to the material.
